CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
This is a photo of Lucky our gorgeous elephant who took the 4 of us for jungle rides. From our last stop Pokhara, we travelled by road to Chitwan National Park to ride elephants and stay in the lovely national park huts in this remote area of Nepal. The meals were lovely, but there was no electricity, we had kerosine lamps and sometimes!! hot water but not always, and it was a little bit cold at night and early morning. We had 2 hour rides on the elephants to spot rhinos, tigers (NOT) but we did spot owls, crocodiles, boars, deer, heaps of jungle birds and had 2 wonderful days relaxing and meeting new people. We had a canoe ride on the river in canoes like dugouts - that was an experience - local people cut the grasses (oblivious to the fact that tigers sometimes attack without warning) and they put them on their backs to trudge the miles back to their village where they use them for fodder for their cattle or roofs for their houses. A lovely couple of days and Marg and I were quite attached to the gentle giants called Lucky and Ram that we got quite close to. They gave us knowledge on the habitat of these elephants and their lifestyle habits. Quite an experience.
