FISHTAIL LODGE - POKHARA
We left our luxury stay at the Hyatt to spend 2 nights at Pokhara about 200kms from Kathmandu. We took 7 1/2 hours to get there by bus as the roads were attrociously bad and had potholes the whole way. We stopped to see a fuel tanker that had fallen off the edge of the road and over the cliff and they were trying to winch it up with steel cables. Anyway we got there safely and spent 2 nights at Fishtail lodge in the middle of the lake and had to go to the mainland by having staff pull us over on a wooden raft with 44 gallon drums underneath. They did it with such skill - one night I had a go at pulling us across by rope and messed the whole thing up and couldn't neatly stack the rope like they did. They were such nice staff and nothing we asked was too much for them to do. Our leader Puskar accompanied us to dinner each night at a different restaurant - his company, his stories and his knowledge of the area, made our trip very enjoyable. We highly recommend him as a tour leader.
